Sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.): Its potential as foodstuff and traditional medicine

The search for natural, functional, and healthy products based on local knowledge continues, such as sacha inchi (SI) or Plukenetia volubilis L. (Euphorbiaceae). This plant has long been used by the Icha tribe in Peru because it a high protein vegetable oil content. study aims to explain potential use of SI food ingredient traditional medicine. method is library research using data obtained online at Google Scholar keywords inchi, P. uses volubilis. an indigenous Peruvian that cultivated various parts world, including Indonesia. nutritional value so considered “super food” polyunsaturated oils, quality protein, essential amino acids, dietary fiber, minerals, tocopherols, phytosterols, phenolic compounds. seeds are anti-oxidants, anti-cancer, anti-hypercholesterolemia, anti-hypertensive anti-microbial properties. proportion unsaturated fatty acids high, ϒ δ -tocopherol, but relatively stable against oxidation, storage needs be developed. have developed nutraceutical, namely food, especially overcome cholesterol hypertension.
